Mapping alumni engagement in matching international business partners during the Visit Malaysia Year 2026

Based on my combined fifty-plus years experience in working with the corporate sector and learning from many management gurus at the universities, I am convinced that ‘every business is a potential growth business’. There's one thing I've noticed that's consistent among the group of leaders in different industries: “They believe in and act on the idea that there's no such thing as a mature business. Their growth is profitable, sustainable & capital efficient."

Another quality I've seen time and again from my experiences with successful business leaders that their companies may be in high-growth industries or those in which growth has come to a standstill. But their companies manage to churn out double-digit growth, year after year, no matter whether the economy is in recession or on a roll. Today, while the aerospace industry is still muddled in no-growth mode, Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group business has  been growing at a rapid clip for the past several years. SIA is globally recognized for its exceptional service, safety, engineering excellence and innovation.

During conversations with my senior alumnus of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Manila, Prof Naqi Azam from Pakistan who is former Global Vice President of Citi Bank International & Business Coach Greg Atienza, former Secretary-General of Federation of AIM Alumni Associations, Inc. (FAIM) said “The mindset of growth starts at the top, but must reach all the way to the bottom. Business development is everybody's responsibility.”

I took that opportunity to brief them that Malaysia is gearing up for an exciting year with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) to showcase its rich multicultural heritage, diverse natural landscapes, and vibrant cities through cultural events, eco-tourism experiences, and there is opportunity for business matching. I am happy they were attracted with VM2026 immersive travel packages and they agreed to inform their families & associates. (www.visitmalaysia26.com)
